One Car, Two Car, Red Car, WOO Car!

With a boy toddler who is obsessed with all types of vehicles, this creative art project was a no brainer! Since one of our main focuses for week one of toddler home-schooling was the color RED, that was obviously the color we chose to use. Set up is pretty simple. All you need is a paper plate, red paint, a piece of paper, a variety of vehicles ( you want to make sure you have different patterns on the tires), tape and a smock (unless you have a very clean toddler).

To make this activity easier for S, I taped the paper down to the table. I put washable, RED tempera paint on a small paper plate (I also mixed a bit of red glitter paint in for an extra pop). I put his smock on him (from ikea), placed the vehicles in front of him and he did the rest! He absolutely loved driving the cars through the paint on the plate and then seeing the different patterns of each tire on his paper. The big monster truck was definitely his favorite!

As he drove the cars through the paint I described what he was doing. Statements like, "you are driving the monster truck through the red paint", "look at those big red tracks on the paper", "what direction are you going to make the red tracks go". I constantly used the word "red" to help solidify that color recognition.

This is an excellent and easy activity to do for any color recognition, creative art expression or even just as a boredom buster. You can change it up by doing it outside, using different color paints for each car, mixing paint with seasoning for scented paint, and so much more! What variation would you use for this activity!? Happy Learning,

Aimee
