Lesson Plan Week 1 Intro

I was seeing RED this week! Not because I was angry or toddler mannerisms were driving me up the wall (okay maybe at some points) but because we started this week focusing on learning the color red. Our two main focuses for our first week of home-school were to work on recognizing the color red, and the letter S. We also focused on gross motor skills by riding his balance bike and fine-motor skills by using a marker in his wipe-clean book.

So lets break this down a bit since it's our first lesson plan blog post. The lesson plan for Stryder's age is broken down into several main areas of focus or learning domains. They are language/literacy, fine-motor (small muscle movements with hands and fingers), gross-motor (large muscle movements with legs and body), cognitive (math, science, perception, reasoning, logic etc), creative arts (music, art, etc), sensory exploration, Bible & Scripture, and self-help/responsibility. All of these domains are important in his learning and growth. Every activity we plan is meant to help him progress further in each.

The first lesson plan is available for download in the "downloads" section of the blog under the fun & learning tab. This week we had games such as letter & color hunt, color sorting game, milk & dye experiment, painting with cars and playdoh fun! Sometimes Stryder stayed engaged for extended periods of time, sometimes they were brief bursts and that is okay. At his age it is important to encourage learning with the activity as long as he maintains interest. If you child doesn't seem interested in an activity pause it and try again later or change it up a bit (believe me it will help you solve a lot of fits).

You will notice that we use a LOT of books in our lesson plans. I cannot stress enough the importance of continuing any learning you do through reading together. Most of the books we will use during our home-school will be Usborne Books & More books (with me being a UBAM book lady and all). Here are the ones we used this week:

Now you have seen the basic lesson plan let's explore some of the activities in depth! Happy Learning,

Aimee Folk
